The Senedd has banned GB News from its internal TV system after a recent broadcast.
Former UKIP and Brexit Party leader, and GB News presenter, Nigel Farage said the decision showed “just how awful the Welsh Labour administration is”.
However, the decision to ban GB News from the Senedd‘s TV system is one for the Senedd Commission, not the Welsh government.
A spokesperson on behalf of the presiding officer, Elin Jones, said the broadcast was “deliberately offensive, demeaning to public debate and contrary to our parliament’s values”.
The statement makes no reference to any particular broadcast, but notes there are “several ongoing Ofcom investigations into the channel”.
Last month, actor-turned-politician Laurence Fox was sacked by the channel after he made a series of remarks about journalist Ava Evans, including: “Who would want to s*** that?”
GB News apologised in a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, and Ofcom has launched an investigation.
Presenter Dan Wootton, who appeared to laugh during some of the segment on his show Dan Wootton Tonight, was suspended by the broadcaster.
Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, called the decision “a disgrace”, adding it was “censorship and should worry us all”.
“People should be free to choose if they want to watch GB News. It’s not for the Senedd to decide,” he added.
A spokesperson on behalf of Ms Jones added the commission would “discuss the issue at a future meeting”.
Staff and members of the Senedd who wish to view GB News can still do so online in the Senedd.
