A man has died and another two people have been injured after being attacked in Paris on Saturday evening.

The deceased is a German national who was among tourists targeted around the Quai de Grenelle, located about 15 minutes from the Eiffel Tower in the French capital.

The suspect was on the French security services watchlist and was known to have psychiatric disorders, French interior minister Gerald Darnanin said.

They were arrested by police at the scene, Mr Darnanin posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The police have just courageously arrested an assailant attacking passersby in Paris, around the Quai de Grenelle,” he wrote.

“One deceased person and one injured person treated by the Paris fire brigade,” he added, urging people to avoid the area.

The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office said it has not yet been put in charge of an investigation.
